About Me

My name is Maryam Kaymanesh and I am an Iranian-American born and raised in the Northern Virginia area. My work experience started with freelance graphic design. After that I grew into offering web design and photography. It wasn’t until I was working in my family business in home automation and electronics, where I finally found my true passion for interior design. It started when a client requested additional guidance in the design of their personal home theater which gave me an opportunity to explore and express my creative freedom to bring their dream to life.

Shortly after that project, I applied to the Academy of Art University to pursue an MFA in Interior Architecture and Design with the goal of becoming a NCIDQ certified Interior Designer and being better equipped to discover and deliver dream designs to more clients.

As my educational experience at the Academy advanced, I felt the intrinsic push that it was time for me to begin paving my own path away from the family business. I managed to find a job at a small design firm, Lee Design DC, in Oakton, VA. I found excitement in the opportunities our projects offered me as the collaborative work environment allowed for me to play an instrumental role throughout the course of our projects.

I graduated from the Academy of Art University in December 2021 and am now looking to take that next step in my career. I imagine myself working with a team that challenges me as a designer while still allowing me to follow my passion for sustainability and inclusive design. I always dream of being a part of projects that have a positive impact on lives and our environment as I truly believe it is our responsibility as designers to work together in building a more inclusive and environmentally-friendly future.
